The origin of paper cuts has a close relation with the ancient Chinese believes and customs surrounding afterlife. In the Hereafter material belongings are as important in as they are in this one. Important possessions and luxury goods are copied into paper to send them to Heaven. Following this tradition the studio has copied Jurgen Bey’s workspace with all its unfinished business and chaos into paperThe ‘real live’ workspace is filled with all kinds of models, books, wires, boxes, crates. Even the desk itself is a crate. Together with a wooden table and an old chair they form a nice workspace. In China all the different tools, furniture and materials come together in one paper piece. Burning it, chaos will be sent to Heaven.
